Robin’s Top Tip

 2011-02-01

Try this ACL tip from Robin:
Find function

At DataConsulting we’re big fans of the Find function, if you don’t use it already try so now. It allows you search for strings of text across a whole table or a particular field. The function is not case sensitive and will go to work looking for the text string regardless of whether its in the middle of a larger string of text or on its own. Below is an example of how it may be used:

  • Find(“Champagne”) – looks through whole table
  • Find(“Champagne”,Expense_Description) – looks for the word Champagne in just the Expense_Decsription field
Handy short cut keys

Did you know also that if you’re working in script or just typing an expression in the filter bar or expression builder you can press the following keys:

  • F2 – Brings up available Fields plus more
  • F4 – Brings up available Project Items e.g. Table Layouts
  • F8 – Runs the Data Selector
