Hi, I’m Jake.
I was born in Warrington and grew up here before moving away to Loughborough University to study Maths. As part of my degree, I secured myself a year-long placement in York with Aviva as an Actuarial Intern. Even though I enjoyed spending 95% of my placement year playing with spreadsheets, an actuarial career didn’t feel like the right fit for me and so I went back to Loughborough for my final year ready to decide which career direction to head in (completely unaware of the pandemic heading everyone’s way).
2020 was not the year to graduate and enter the job market (even with a First Class degree!). I moved back home to Warrington over the summer and became a key worker at Sainsbury’s. This afforded me the time to brush up on my programming skills and helped me realise that data analysis is an area I’m particularly interested in.
Outside of work and academia, I’ve been a member of The Scout Association since the age of 6, through which I found a love of the outdoors. Alongside being a Scout Leader, I spend a lot of my time exploring the country on foot and by bike. I’ve completed numerous cycle tours around Scottish islands and in 2019 I completed the National Three Peaks Challenge in under 21 hours. I’m accompanied on most of these trips by my camera which lets me unleash my creative side (and gives me an excuse to take regular breaks…).
Fast-forward to March 2021 where I’m excited to have started working for DataConsulting, albeit from home and still yet to meet any of my colleagues in person! I’m looking forward to the opportunities this role can offer and being able to apply my analytical skills as part of a close-knit team.
