IT and Internal Audit work together at CHC Helicopter to transform audit, risk management, and compliance strategy

Congratulations to Paul King, Senior Vice President & Chief Information Officer at CHC Helicopter, winner of the GRC Visionary Award at this year’s ACL Impact Awards! Paul was honored along with winners in four other award categories at a special luncheon presented at the ACL Connections customer conference. The GRC Visionary Award recognizes a person/team who has transformed their overall Audit and/or GRC strategy in a significant way through the use of ACL technology, and serves as a leader in the industry.

CHC’s Internal Audit Department, in close partnership with IT, ramped up their audit efficiency and their ability to align their work with Management and external auditors expectations through the use of ACL GRC. They now manage all audit testing centrally for over 75 locations spanning 30 countries, including Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance and operational audits. They’ve also enabled global collaboration, working not only with the their global internal audit department through the ACL GRC audit management software system, but also with multiple external consultants worldwide.

Success highlights:

• Reduction in software costs of approximately 60%
• Improved effectiveness of approximately 30%, including reduction in external audit fees.
• Reduced audit review time, shortened the response time to close out items, and improved the documentation process.
• 100% happy users.
• Great feedback to IT from internal stakeholders on how the design of the tool enables an effective audit approach and has also helped everyone on the team become more efficient than with their prior audit tool.
