A global manufacturing company, based in the North West of England is conducting a review of their business processes – starting with purchase to pay – in an effort to become ‘best in class’.
Recognising that CAATs are a great and efficient way to increase audit effectiveness whilst reducing risk, DataConsulting was engaged by the Head of Internal Audit to provide CAATs input to the review.
We advised, scoped and developed 14 P2P tests in SQL Server using data extracted from their SAP ERP system. The tests included a duplicate payment review, retrospective vendor creation and adherence to payment terms.
With an eye on the future, the CAATs were written in such a way that they could easily be embedded into a continuous auditing framework and run on a business-as-usual basis – a long term goal for the company.
Our work strengthend existing audit findings, highlighted new areas of concern and provided positive confirmation that some sub-processes were working well. Other business processes will be reviewed in the coming months.
