As the demand for Data Analytics continues to grow, we have made the decision to expand our team here at DataConsulting, therefore, without further ado, we welcome Matthew Thornton:-
Hi, I’m Matthew. I was born in Barnsley and have spent most of my life there. I went to New College Pontefract to study A-Level Business Studies, Economics and Accounting. This where I found my love for business and all it entails, securing myself an A*, A and B. With my new passion, I then went on to study Business Economics at The University of Hull, finishing my studies in May 2021 in which I achieved a 1st class degree.
Outside of academia, I worked as a customer assistant at Tesco from 2016-2019, then as a Step-Up shift leader in 2020/21. These roles built upon my interpersonal skills, problem-solving and time management skills as I was balancing a 24-hour workweek at Tesco meanwhile being a full-time university student.
Outside of work, I am the typical business graduate, excessively using spreadsheets to find the next undervalued stock, although, when I am away from my computer, I like the outdoors, going to places like the Lake District and Peak District. In 2020 alone, I went to the Lake District three times with one visit being solely to walk up Scafell Pike to raise money for the Guide Dogs charity.
After 5 years of business-related education and 5 years in retail, I realized I was always interested in the numbers and data side of a business, trying to find useful insights into the data available. This passion for data is what led me to research the gaming industry for my thesis, using statistical forecasting on quantitative data to try and predict future sales. I am excited to apply my education to the real world in DataConsulting, to provide clients with useful insights into their data.
