DataConsulting May 2012 Newsletter

2012-05-01

Please find below our May newsletter. I do hope you enjoy it. We’ve packed plenty into this edition including the benefits available to ACL Premium Support recipients, the latest changes within the ACL London User Group and some more client success stories. You will also notice that we have restored ‘coffee corner’ to our newsletter after popular demand. Finally we have details of the next ACL Bootcamp Webinar as well as the upcoming Open Enrolment courses in June for which there are still spaces left. The advanced scripting course will be particularly beneficial for any of you looking to automate your analytics.

As part of ACL’s current focus on software development you may have heard the exciting news that ACL have released a Dashboarding component for AX which will really help bring data to life in a multitude of graphical ways – more details on this to follow next month. If you can’t wait until then please contact us directly.

I hope you find the newsletter interesting. If there is anything that is of particular interest to you, either topics we’ve covered, or topics that we’ve failed to cover, whatever it is let us know and we’ll do our best to elaborate or find relevant content to circulate.

Best Regards,

Robin

Spotlight on ACL Premium Support

When considering a data analytics solution we always advise our clients to consider not just the functionality of the tool, but also the on-going support available. An investment in a data analytics tool, such as ACL, should be just that- an investment. Are you confident that you will still be able to get the most from your software in 5 or 10 years’ time? Whether you have a specific technical issue or wish to achieve a broader business goal – such as automating scripts to streamline your audit reviews or enhancing fraud detection within your organisation, ACL Support is on hand to assist you.

Q&A From “Best Practices of World-Class Audit Shops” Webinar

ACL’s Peter Millar and Steve Biskie hosted a 60-minute webinar on the 5 Best Practices of World-Class Audit Shops. Peter and Steve have spent many years working closely with audit departments of all sizes who add incredible value to their organizations and have seen the following themes emerge:

World-class audit teams:

  1. Have a shared goal that they work together to achieve
  2. Develop plans for success, and track progress towards their goal
  3. Think beyond the immediate need to work smarter, not harder
  4. Create raving fans from key stakeholders
  5. Anticipate obstacles and fight to overcome them

Introducing the first-ever Mobile Audit Management App from ACL Workpapers

“ACL Workpapers for iOS represents the first step toward changing the way audit professionals are able to perform in today’s increasingly mobile world,” said Dan Zitting, Vice President of Working Papers Software for ACL. “Chief Audit Executives can now literally put their audit management system in their pocket, check on their team’s progress, troubleshoot issues, and run reports on the go.”

DataConsulting’s Coffee Corner

Connect the dots – Google Maps

DataConsulting’s Coffee Corner is back after popular demand and this time we are putting a modern twist on the classic puzzle game – Connect the dots.

The Managing Director of DataConsulting Robin Clough spent a few days in Los Angeles. Each day, Robin would either go for a run or for a bike ride around LA, whilst trying to spell out a popular ACL command.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, would be to retrace Robin’s steps using Google Maps and work out which ACL command he was trying to spell out.
