Welcome to the February edition of the DataConsulting newsletter. As it’s been half term, I hope some of you had the chance to have a few days’ break and recharged the batteries a little.
This month we’ve pulled together some useful information which we hope will go some way to enhancing your knowledge and experience of using ACL software.
This month ACL have released their iPad version of ACL Workpapers, which is innovative and certainly representative of the way things seem to be going technology wise. I’ve already had a play and it certainly is slick and easy to use. You can currently try ACL Workpapers for free, so if you’re considering adopting an audit working paper solution, then by all means try it before you commit to buying. It’s cloud-based, too, so you will be up and running within minutes.
March will see the release of AX4 which we will no doubt feature in our March or April edition. I know a good many of you attended the User Group in London hosted by E&Y/David Britain which I hope you enjoyed. We’ve had some good feedback on Ben’s fuzzy duplicates presentation – he’s also managed to write a few words on the event below.
Well, do enjoy the newsletter and I’ll catch up with you all in March!

A few weeks ago I participated in the 26th World Continuous Auditing and Reporting Symposium at Rutgers Business School. I think it was about the 12th occasion at which I have presented at the Symposium. Initially, WCARS was heavily oriented towards academic research and technical papers on continuous auditing concepts. In more recent years, WCARS has become one of the most important forums for discussions not just on continuous auditing and monitoring, but increasingly on the use of audit automation technology overall. Although a relatively small conference, there is now strong participation from audit technology leadership from the Big 4, the AICPA and internal audit from some of the world’s largest business organizations.
In this video Todd Hoffine, Partner at AcquantUS, LLC, and Former Director, Corporate Audit Department, Global Operations at The Coca-Cola Company gives his insights into what makes a data analysis implementation successful and pivotal to improved audit execution. Here’s a bit of a hint – it has less to do with being a “techie” than you think. It has more to do with strategy, people, process and creativity.
